A cargo ship loaded with 53 containers of fertilizer imported from Belarus left Wuhan Yangluo Port on April 26, bound for Yantai, a coastal city in east China’s Shandong Province.
It marked the launch of the rail-river intermodal transport service linking Wuhan with Belarus and Yantai.
The fertilizer, weighted 1,370 tons, was transported to Wuhan by China-Europe freight train from Belarus, and then was transferred to Yantai, which was estimated to take 35 days for the whole journey.
The rail-river intermodal transport is characterized by less pollution and low energy consumption. Statistics show that the China-Europe freight train (Wuhan) has transferred 20,946 TEUs of cargo to other cities in the country by rail and water since its operation. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
