Hubei will launch nearly 3,000 cultural activities to celebrate the 2023 Dragon Boat Festival, said the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hubei Province on June 20.
The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on June 22 this year. In September 2009, the Dragon Boat Festival was formally inscribed into UNESCO's World Intangible Cultural Heritage List, becoming the first Chinese festival to be included.
According to preliminary statistics, more than 100 dragon boat races and nearly 3,000 cultural activities will be carried out across the province, including the dragon boat race in Xiangyang City, the 2023 Dragon Boat Festival at the Qu Yuan's hometown - Zigui County, Yichang City, and a 40-day worship ceremony in Huangshi City.
In addition, the Hubei Provincial Museum will extend its closing hours to 18:00 during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday (June 22-24). A series of activities such as themed concerts, special lectures, and expert tours also will be organized during the three days. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
