The 17th Hubei (Wuhan) - Taiwan Week, jointly hosted by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Hubei Provincial People's Government, and the Wuhan Municipal People’s Government, officially opened on September 19in HubeiProvince, central China.

More than 600 guests from Taiwan, including famous political figures, important business groups like the General Chamber of Commerce of Taiwan, grassroots people, youth representatives, as well as experts, scholars and journalists from both sides of the Taiwan Straitare expectedto participate in the event.

This year’s Taiwan Week takes Wuhan as the main venue and Yichang, Huangshi, Ezhou cities as the parallel sessions. 17 activities relating to four series aspolitical exchanges, Hubei and Taiwan industrial cooperation matchmaking conference, seminars, and cultural and grassroots exchanges, will be held in five days to promote the economic and trade cooperation between Hubei and Taiwan, so as to expand exchanges in various fields at the grassroots level between the two sides.

There are five main activities during the Week, namely, the provincial leaders’ meeting with distinguished guests, a welcome banquet, a theme light showalong the Yangtze River and Hanjiang River, an opening ceremonyanda project signing ceremony, and the cross-Strait (Wuhan) high-tech industrial cooperation and development forum.

This year’s Week aims to serve as a platform for economic and trade exchanges and cooperation,and deepen cooperation and integrated development betweenHubei and Taiwan industries in the optoelectronic information, automobile new energy, biomedicine, high-end manufacturing, aviation logisticsand other fields, an official from the Taiwan Affairs Office of Hubei Provincial People’s Government introduced.

A youth fashion festival will also be held during the Week, inviting young peoplefrom Taiwan, especially those first-time arrivals, to visit Hubei andexperience in person the changes taking place in the province and China’s mainland. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Yuan Pian and Ruan Xinqi)
